PPL Park to host Lingerie Football League's Philadelphia Passion in 2013

The Philadelphia Union will have a new co-tenant next year that hails from a professional women's football league.
But there's a catch. It will not be the brand of football that you might have initially expected.
The Lingerie Football League's Philadelphia Passion are moving to Chester next summer. The two-time defending Eastern Conference champions will play home games on June 15 and July 13, both of which are Saturdays.
(See what I did there... okay, let's move on.)
Those of you who follow the Passion know that the LFL has historically played a winter schedule. Next year, they will switch to the summer in order to try to get more attention.
Prior to this year, the Passion had played at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, N.J. You may know that venue better as the Sovereign Bank Arena.
(Yes, I know some things about the team. I don't cover it, but you may have heard that this website does in some detail. To each his or her own, I say.)
PPL Park will be the second Major League Soccer stadium to host the LFL. The Chicago Fire's Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., was the first, hosting the Chicago Bliss last year.
The other 10 teams in the LFL play at indoor venues, with franchises in cities including Baltimore, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Omaha and Seattle.
On a more serious note... As for the rumored plans to launch a new professional women's soccer league next year, I've heard nothing about there possibly being a team in the Philadelphia area.
The only markets known to be involved so far are Chicago, Seattle, Boston and northern New Jersey, and

The meeting was held here to discuss about Pakistan Premier League (PPL). According to media reports, Chairman of PCB informed that the League would be successful if international player take part in it.

PPL might clash with IPL in 2013

begin from 25 March 2013 and end on 10 April 2013. If this tentative schedule remains intact, PPL will clash with IPL. As IPL begins from the 3 April 2013, the knockout phases of PPL will clash with the opening games.
An official of PCB said, “We didn’t have many options. The window after the South Africa tour is the only period available according to the Future Tour Program”. Pakistan has to play 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20s with South Africa between Feb. 1 and March 24, 2013. The South African cricket board has apparently turned down to reschedule the dates of this series. However, the official mentioned the talks were made by the broadcasters and advertisers during the PPL committee’s visit to Dubai along with Zaka Ashraf.
“Broadcasters and advertisers haven’t shown any concerns. They’ve given a thumbs-up to the timetable. Just a few fits are coinciding.  The IPL will stretch for almost 8 weeks and the clash will not develop much difficulty for us. Even if the leagues have popular cricketers, they’ll just miss 1 or 2 IPL games. We’re now keeping our fingers crossed,” the official said. 30 overseas players will take part in Pakistan Premier League.

PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf on Friday said that the Pakistan Premier League (PPL) will be played in March 2013 and a request has already been made to the chief patron of the board, President Asif Ali Zardari to allow a five-year tax exemption for the event. "There is a lot of foreign and local investment involved in holding this event and I have already requested the President to allow us the tax exemption as the Pakistan League will create job opportunities and will be good for our economy and image," said Ashraf. "We just need a two-week window even though the Indian Premier League will also start from first week of April. We have already started groundwork for the project," he added. Ashraf returned from Dubai this morning after attending a series of meetings in connection with the PPL. He said the PPL will feature five franchises consisting of 30 international players, with six each in every team. "We are targeting the big names of international cricket because their presence will boost the PPL and we are preparing a budget of millions for this. "The Sialkot sports industry is keen to buy a franchise, someone like Mian Mansha is also ready to have his own franchise. The local and expatriate business community in the UAE also wants in, so we are well prepared for the event," he said. The PCB chief is keen on making the event an annual affair. "We have our own mechanism to hold the PPL but I can say that we have taken inspiration from the IPL. May be, one day the PPL franchise can be part of the IPL as well," he said. The chairman said the tax exemption has been sought to make the Twenty20 league a financially successful model till it became self-reliant and to ensure the top players could be paid competitive sums for coming to Pakistan. He also hoped that the international cricket could be revived as early as next year following the successful staging of two exhibition matches in Karachi involving an International World XI and Pakistan All Star XI. For that to happen, Ashraf was commited towards providing best security measures to the overseas players. "We have set up our own anti-vigilance and security divisions and we are also in close contact with the government as far as security arrangements for the tournament is concerned," he said.

PPL 2013 Schedule

The schedule of PPL 2013 is not announced yet but the PCB Committee has confirmed the set date to be after South Africa 2013 tour on March 15 2013. The teams and schedule however are still undecided due to conflict with IPL 2013 as well. Most teams participating in Faysal Bank T20 Cup are likely to join the league. Pakistan Premier League (cricket)

The Pakistan Premier League is a proposed twenty20 cricket league in Pakistan.[1] Zaka Ashraf, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), explained "We want to use the league as a tool for the return of international cricket to Pakistan. That is why it's really important for us to have international stars featuring in it."[2] Pakistan had not hosted international cricket since 2009, and it was hoped that a successful twenty20 tournament with foreign players would lead to tours by national teams.[3]
Zaka Ashraf recently stated that the league "will help bring international cricket back to Pakistan". "It will be like the pattern of the IPL (Indian Premier League), the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and the Sri Lanka Premier League," he said. "We're going to have league matches in Pakistan and probably next March is our target".[4] The PCB is planning to hold the event from 25 March 2013, stretching to about 6 to 7 days after Pakistan's tour of South Africa.[5] Sunil Gavaskar and Wasim Akram have both pledged to support the Pakistan league. [6]A meeting of the PCB was held to discuss the PPL and according to sources the event will last for 7 days.Zaka Ashraf informed the media that the league would be successful if international players take part in it, adding that several cricketers had been contacted already.

The Stallions became the first Pakistan domestic team to officially receive an invitation to play in the Champions League Twenty20, held in the South Africa in 2012.

Pakistan Premier League (PPL)

The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Zaka Ashraf is hopeful that Pakistan can prepare a viable model to launch its own Twenty20 Premier League tournament soon.
Ashraf said a two-day meeting will take place from March 23 here, in which broadcasters and representatives of some sponsors had also been invited.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Asraf said that if Bangladesh don’t agree to tour Pakistan next month then to revive international cricket in Pakistan they will lure overseas players by offering them lucrative packages to play in the Pakistan Premier League
“The purpose of the meeting is to study the models on which the Indian Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League and even the Big Bash in Australia are held,” Ashraf said.
“We will study all these successful T20 league models in an attempt to devise our own model keeping in mind our limitations and situation in the country,” he added.
Ashraf said the purpose of the meeting was to decide on a window for the proposed PPL and also on the number of franchises and overseas players who can take part in the competition.
The Pakistan Premier League is a proposed professional Twenty20 cricket league in Pakistan, formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board to replace the current Faysal Bank Twenty-20 League. The first edition of the tournament will begin in 2013. The PCB was one of the first cricketing bodies to develop a professional T20 league in 2004 with the ABN AMRO T20 League, with teams being directly owned by the PCB. The newer “franchise” model is based on the EPL, Pro20, Big Bash leagues. The Pakistan Premier League will also be including teams from Afghanistan, China and the United Arab Emirates, making use of the franchise model.
Well placed sources in the board have told PTI that Ashraf has also got the government’s approval for launching the PPL with the interior ministry assuring the board that they will take care of the security of visiting players.
The PCB has been trying to launch its own PPL since 2008 when Dr Nasim Ashraf was the Chairman of the board.
“During Nasim Ashraf’s time IMG and some other companies even gave presentations to the board on a module for PPL but the matter was not pushed any further and the militants attack on the Sri Lankan team in March 2009 derailed the project,” a source said.
The source said that the PCB was now getting frustrated at the lack of support it was getting from the ICC and its member boards over sending teams to Pakistan because of security concerns.
“The PCB now feels that even if Bangladesh don’t agree to tour Pakistan next month the best way forward to revive international cricket in Pakistan is to lure overseas players by offering them lucrative packages to play in the PPL,” the source said.
The PCB Chairman is due to travel to Dhaka on Friday to watch the India vs Pakistan match on Sunday and also to meet with Bangladesh Cricket Board officials to convince them to send their team to Pakistan.
Ashraf, however made it clear that the PCB can’t force anyone to play in Pakistan and that the decision to whether go ahead with their proposed tour to Pakistan was entirely up to the Bangladesh board.
“We have given them assurances that the same security will be provided to their team which was given to their delegation. Now it is up to them to decide the fate of the series.”
Former captain Rameez Raja has suggested the Pakistan Cricket Board to launch a Pakistan Premier League on the lines of cash-awash Indian Premier League in a bid to restore international cricket in the country.
Rameez, now a well-known commentator and expert, said the time was ripe for the board to launch the PPL as this would not only help in speeding up the process of restoring international cricket in Pakistan but also improve financial conditions of cricketers in the country.
“Obviously we can’t match the glamour and glitz of the IPL, but we can take it as a role model and launch the PPL on a smaller scale, if we can even get players from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or even Zimbabwe or Kenya to come and play in the league, it will give Pakistan cricket a much needed boost,” the former captain said.

At the moment, no current top player will tour Pakistan even for a huge amount. The PCB will only succeed in roping players who have passed their prime or are retired cricketers and their participation will not make any difference to what the PCB actually wants to achieve." they said that it will be held on june but it did not happened.
