The Pakistan Premier League is a proposed twenty20 cricket league in Pakistan.[1] Zaka Ashraf, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), explained "We want to use the league as a tool for the return of international cricket to Pakistan. That is why it's really important for us to have international stars featuring in it."[2] Pakistan had not hosted international cricket since 2009, and it was hoped that a successful twenty20 tournament with foreign players would lead to tours by national teams.[3]
Zaka Ashraf recently stated that the league "will help bring international cricket back to Pakistan". "It will be like the pattern of the IPL (Indian Premier League), the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and the Sri Lanka Premier League," he said. "We're going to have league matches in Pakistan and probably next March is our target".[4] The PCB is planning to hold the event from 25 March 2013, stretching to about 6 to 7 days after Pakistan's tour of South Africa.[5] Sunil Gavaskar and Wasim Akram have both pledged to support the Pakistan league. [6]A meeting of the PCB was held to discuss the PPL and according to sources the event will last for 7 days.Zaka Ashraf informed the media that the league would be successful if international players take part in it, adding that several cricketers had been contacted already.
